Cyclone Dust Collectors
Cyclone Dust Collectors
Nederman MikroPul High Efficiency Cyclone Dust Collectors are a cost-effective solution for separating dry particulate greater than 5 microns (0.2 thousandths of an inch) from gas streams.
How do cyclone dust collectors work?
Cyclone dust collectors (named for their vortex motion similar to that of cyclones and tornadoes) are large funnel shaped tubes. Dust and debris are pulled into the tangential inlet at high velocities, forcing material against the walls in a cyclonic motion. Larger particles slide down into the hopper while smaller or fine dust exits out the other side.
Further dust separation can be provided downstream with a fabric filter dust collector. Separation efficiencies depend on the centrifugal force applied upon the dust (particles with larger mass being subject to greater force). Velocity, cyclone curvature profile, and the particulate mass combined with the time that the force is applied against the particles, characterizes performance.
Benefits of using a Cyclone
- Low initial cost
- Low operating expenses
- No moving internal parts
- Minimal space requirements
When should I use a cyclone dust collector?
Cyclone dust collectors can be used as pre-separators to reduce the dust load reaching a final, more efficient filter. They can act as protective devices to remove large hot particles from the gas or air stream to prevent damage to the filter media/material.
Inertial separators are the simplest type of dust collector. They can used to reduce the volume of particles from the mass flow of an air stream.
When is a cyclone most effective?
When the initial dust load in the gas is dry and more than 5 microns (0.002 inch)
Twin Cyclone
What types of cyclones are there?
- High efficiency cyclones. For use as standalone filtration systems. May require more energy and higher running costs.
- Lower efficiency cyclones. Often more effective when used together with a final filter or dust collector, as they allow a better mix of particle sizes to reach the filter material, potentially extending the useful working life of the filter media/material.
- Twin Cyclone
- Large or Narrow designs. Smaller diameter cyclones have high dust collection efficiencies at low dust loads (0.23 to 13.7 g/m³ (0.1 to 6 grains/ cu.ft)) and high pressure drop (1.49 to 2.49kPa (6 to 10 inches water column)). Large diameter cyclones can efficiently handle high dust loads (114.4 to 218.8 g/m³ ( 50-100 grains per cu.ft)) with low pressure drops (0.37 to 0.75kPa (1.5 to 3 inch w.c.)).
